Steps to move From blogger to wordpress

Step 1- Things to do in BlogSpot Blog

a)   Log in to your BlogSpot Blog

b)  After login, in Dashboard go to Settings Section

c)   In Settings Section you will find the option Blog Tools

d)  In Blog Tools there are three options

  • Import Blog
  • Export Blog
  • Delete Blog

e)   Now click on Export Blog Link. Clicking on this link will export most of your blog content, settings in Blogger Atom Export Format.

f)    This is used to transfer the current blog to another Blog URL

g)  Now click on “download blog” button, it gives you an .xml file with the current backup.

In a nut shell the whole above process can be summarized as:

Login into BlogSpot Blog> Settings Section> Blog Tools Option> Click on Export Blog> Download .xml file.

Step 2- Things to do in WordPress Blog

a)   Log in to WordPress Blog

b)  After login, in Dashboard go to Tools Section

c)   In Tools section you will find the option Import. Now click on this option.

d)  After clicking on Import Option you get the number of options. In these you have to select only the first option, i.e., Blogger

e)   Now Click Blogger it will show you the text

The first thing you need to do is tell Blogger to let WordPress access your account. You will be sent back here after providing authorization.

Howdy! This importer allows you to import posts and comments from your Blogger account into your WordPress blog.

To use this importer, you must have a Google account and an upgraded (New, was Beta) blog hosted on blogspot.com or a custom domain (not FTP).

f)    Now click on the authorize button. This option tells Blogger to let wordpress access your account.

g)   Click on Grant Access Button and sign in to your blogger account.

h)  As you grant access it will import all your BlogSpot posts and transferred to wordpress blog easily.

Step3- Now Change the URL (Do this Step Carefully)

The images hosted on blogspot blog cannot be imported on WordPress blog.

a)   Again login to your wordpress admin panel and go to Settings Option.

b)  Now click on “Settings Option” this will display a set of options. In this set of options you have to click only on “Permalinks Option”

c)   After selecting Permalinks Option you will see number of options. In this you have to choose “Custom” option and in this you have to type the line

/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html

d)  This is done to match the post structure of your BlogSpot blog

e)   This will minimize the number of broken links and redirects.

f)    Now go to BlogSpot blog back. Click on settings of the blog.

g)  In settings select “Publishing” and click on the top link i.e., “Custom Domain”.

h)  Now in custom domain type your new domain, i.e., http://www.yourblog.com and save.

i)     This will transfer the links automatically to your own domain

j)     Still in BlogSpot blog, go to Layout

k)  In Layout choose the option “Edit HTML”. After selecting this place the following code anywhere after <head> option:

<meta content='0; url=http://YOURNEWURL.com/' http-equiv='refresh'/>

l) This will send the visitors to your blog homepage directly to your new URL

m) And it is one of the safest methods of redirection in Search-Engine Optimization

n) And finally the above change in URL structure shows a warning page that they’re being taken to another domain

And Finally in the end after successful migration, delete your old blog so as to prevent from content duplicity.
